a girl with glowy skin

Keep your cleansing routine short and simple, especially if you have dry skin.

Cleansing oils or waters used to remove makeup dissolve residues and wash away impurities through an emulsification process. If the emulsification is thorough, light rinsing with water alone is enough to keep the skin clean.

Makeup Remover: Products like cleansing oils and cleansing waters that dissolve makeup.
Face Wash: Products like soap and cleansing foams that wash away sebum and impurities.

However, if you use cleansing oils or milks that do not emulsify well, or "two-phase" (biphasic) removers that lack an emulsification process, a second cleanse is necessary to wash them off. Double cleansing is also recommended if you are wearing heavy makeup or need to manage blackheads and whiteheads due to high sebum production.

That said, for those with weak or dry skin, double cleansing can be a significant burden. Here are the proper cleansing habits for dry skin.

1. Avoid unnecessary double cleansing.

If you aren't wearing makeup or only applied light base makeup, there is no need to use a makeup remover. A single wash using soap or a cleansing foam is sufficient.

If your makeup isn't heavy, skip the makeup remover.

2. Choose products that emulsify well.

Instead of two-phase removers or cleansing milks that don't emulsify, it is better to use cleansing oils or balms that emulsify smoothly, or cleansing waters that don't require emulsification at all. Choose a product that can cleanly remove makeup in the first step, and skip using an additional face wash after rinsing with water.

Use an effective emulsifying makeup remover and skip the second cleanse.

3. Flexible cleansing based on skin condition.

You don't always need to create a lot of foam every time you wash your face to get clean. You can skip face wash during your morning wash or depending on your skin condition, and using it only on the T-zone where sebum secretion is high is also a good method. However, on days when you have been outside for a long time or have a lot of build-up, you should wash thoroughly with a face wash.

The key is to check your skin condition and adjust the frequency and method of cleansing accordingly. Adopting cleansing habits that irritate the skin less is the first step toward healthy skin.
